2016 is the year to get the right Surfboard for YOU!
As Surfers we are always looking for that magic board. The board that will allow you to do the best turn you can do, get the best barrel and generally allow you to enjoy surfing.
We think that is the key, enjoying surfing. Your board should only help you enjoy surfing, so if its to small you wont enjoy your surf as much as you could as you wont catch as many waves you wont be able to move around the line up with ease and you will inevitably get tired quicker.
The same is to be said for a board thats to big, it will be harder to duck dive and make it out the back. When your on a wave you may end up going to fast that cant control your speed and miss the section that you wanted to practice your cut back on.
So you need to find the right board for you. How do you do that?
First off, don’t go on volume alone. Luke Hart from Fourth Surfboards opinion on volume is “its a guide not a rule.” Volume is a great way to know roughly what size you should be riding. But if you walk into your local shop and ask for a board thats 30L you could end up on a 5’6 hybrid board or a 6’6 mid length.
So number 1, don’t get hung up on volume remember “guide not a rule”
No 2 – Bring your board. Bringing your current board to the shop is a great way for us and the shaper to see what your riding now, find out what you like and dislike and then suggest a couple of options.
N0 3 – Be realistic, if you surf once a month and you live in Bournemouth chances are a 5’11 x 18 1/2 x 2 1/8 short board isn’t right for you unless your kelly and have retired to sleepy south coast cottage. We ask pretty much the same questions when we speak to anyone about a new board
Whats your current board, Where do you surf most, What do you want from your new board, How much do you weigh, how tall are you and what ability your surfing at. From there we can pretty much start to pick a few models and sizes for you to have a look at.
So this year when your looking for your new board, think about what makes a board good for YOU and will this new board allow you to have as much fun as you can surfing. If you find one that ticks the boxes chances are it might just be that magic board you’ve always wanted.
